pediatric patients

Jeffrey Callen, University of Louisville; Deputy and Feature Editor, Journal Watch Dermatology, 12 May 2009 4:05 PM EST

Bone loss is a potential problem for these patients as well, but even more of an issue is the stunting of growth. The bisphosphonates are not approved for use in children, therefore you should discuss their use carefully with the patient's primary provider and assess the risks before prescribing.

Potential adverse effect of zelodronic acid

FC Payne, 1 Jan 2010 11:35 PM EST

Competing interests: None declared

I think I recall that zelodronic acid has been more frequently used in the treatment of osteoporosis in cancer patients than bisphosphonates. Jaw bone necrosis has occured, I recall, much more frequently in the zelodronic/cancer population than the bisphpsphonate/ cancer-free population.
